Alagar Kovil set on the backdrop of a hill surrounded by thick woods is a true beauty. It is believed that Lord Vishnu who is adorned as the “Azhgar“, the brother of Meenakshi resides here. The temple is famous for the procession during the Chitrai festival which is celebrated in April or May. As per the belief, during the wedding ritual, Azhagar travels to Madurai and to denote the same, Sundararaja, a processional icon made of gold is carried by the devotees from Azhagar to Madurai. It is believed that Pandyan Kings has constructed the main tower of the temple and based on the characters from epics, the sculptures are carved out.
