Together these two parts cover a huge area of 344.44 sq km and provide a home to myriad rare species of flora and fauna. While you go further inside the jungles as part of trekking, you'll notice thick and green and tall bamboo trees and paddy fields too, which look magnificent. A huge portion of the forest is covered in teak, rosewood trees, eucalyptus trees, and silver oak plantations.

When it comes to wild animals, this place is home to large numbers of langurs, monkeys, sambars, bison, bears, and squirrels. Besides, the presence of tigers and panthers has also been noticed all around the wildlife sanctuary. Also, many varieties of reptiles such as flying lizards, golden tree snakes, green whip snakes, crocodiles, and even monitor lizards can also be seen in plenty here.

The entire beauty of Wayanad wildlife sanctuary does not end here, the sanctuary is also the best place for birdwatchers and ornithologists as it is home to around 216 species of birds including various species of owls, woodpeckers, peacocks, cuckoos, and babblers among others. It also houses some rare bird species such as Malabar trogon shama and crested serpent eagle too can be observed here.
